Given the uncertain times ahead, it is important to stay focused on your health and long term investment. Fortunately your garden combines both!
Your garden is a reflection of who you are and when you wake up in an inspiring environment, you feel good and fulfilled. This is especially true right now when we are confined at home and need to stay home as much as possible even when exercising.
A garden is grounding, we currently have time for it and can engage the whole family in a fun activity too!
Given landscaping and garden maintenance are not part of an essential service, it might also be a while before you can access those services again especially if the lockdown is prolonged. For nature, it’s business as usual and it will keep doing what it does best, growing! So here are a few tips to get you going:
- The meditative art of weeding. Make it fun and get the kids challenged by pulling as many as you can. It is crucial to pull out the weeds completely and easier to do it when the soil is wet
- Citrus care. If you see some caterpillars at the moment, mix a tablespoon of dried red pepper flakes, one whole minced onion and a teaspoon of dishwashing liquid, add three litres of water, blend and leave for 24 hours. Spray the plants with the mixture and adapt the quantity if you need less
- Autumn lawn care. If due to drought your lawn has visible cracks in the ground, fill them with lawn mix or sand if available. Alternatively, use potting mix, compost or simply topsoil from your garden.
- Autumn leaves. Depending on which ones and if you don’t have access to green waste services, they make great compost.
